"Here's my branding, can you please design an app for me, that won't feel fishy?"

My role UI/UX Design for both iOS & Android

The client first approached me on the web, saying he has a great idea for an app. After he explained a little, he then told me that he had his branding made by a cool studio, and now he needs a design for his native IOS & android app.

This was a fun and challenging project. I had to do both the UX and UI design for the entire app. Since the client was just starting out and had no experience in building and/or designing an app, I had to walk him through the entire process.

The Challenge How do you make a "Pay by the hour" hotel app not feel sleazy?

So here is a quick brief- The project is an app, which allows its users to book a hotel and pay by the hour - With an hour notice. Now, the thing is - The intention was truly for business & vacation purposes. So how do we show it?

We decided that along with the vibrant style of the branding that the client already had made by a different branding agency, we would focus on a vibrant, young and "Fun" UI design, which will give the entire project a fresh fealing, and not the sleazy thing everyone thinks about when they hear about a pay by the hour hotel.

"I want the background purple."

The client was aiming for an Airbnb style interface for the hotel search. Of course, it had gone through some changes, but the general concept came from there. He insisted on having the brand colors all over the place - even in places when you really need to tone down the "craziness". Even though it was challenging, I truly believe that the final outcome came out great and fitting for the project.
Client's always right... right?

Final Words

At the end, I believe that the app came out great. Even though we had to crank up the color volumes a bit too much in my taste, it really fits the client's branding & Approach.
